Molluscs are no joke

This issue includes many aspects of malacology, both those who study molluscs, and the animals themselves ñ their identities, histories, lives and threats. Molluscs excite many emotions - the sorrow or anger of conservationists, the admiration of their beauty and adaptations, but are they ever the subject for laughter? Apart from the story in the Unitas newsletter ("Come on boys, weíre almost there"), I know only the joke about two British workmen ñ "You cruel man, why did you smash that poor snail with your shovel?" "Heís been following me around all day." So if anyone has any molluscan jokes or cartoons, please share them with us in the Bulletin.

Items for the next Bulletin (Number 39, August 2002) should reach me by mid-July. I also rely on you for articles, information about meetings, new publications, ësnippetsí of news etc. Please keep articles simple and succinct, avoiding or explaining specialist terms, and include a reference to a more detailed account. Illustrations to accompany items are always needed. Remember that the Web version uses colour illustrations.
