23-28 August 2002

Seventh International Symposium on Littorinid Biology

Hosted by the Shoals Marine Laboratory

(Cornell University/University of New Hampshire)

Sited on the rocky coast of Maine, USA, on Appledore Island, in the Isles of Shoals (Gulf of Maine). The island is about 9 miles off the coast of Maine/New Hampshire. Basic cost for the meeting will be $80/day ($400 for the 5 nights/6 days). As at previous meetings we welcome talks on ALL aspects of littorinid biology, since it is one of the benefits of these symposia that they bring together workers from a wide range of disciplines. Likewise, 'littorinid' is interpreted loosely, so that contributions on other intertidal gastropods such as trochids, muricids and neritids are also most welcome. The proceedings of five previous littorinid symposia have been published and we are investigating possibilities for publication this time.

Participants will arrive on the island on Aug. 23 and leave on Aug. 28, providing four full days for scientific proceedings. In addition to exploring the intertidal zone of Appledore, extra activities may include visits to the neighboring islands and their seabird colonies, a whale watching voyage, a traditional Maine lobster bake, and visits to historic Star Island.

TRAVEL: The nearest large airport is Logan Airport, in Boston, Massachusetts. Visitors flying in to Logan will take a regularly scheduled bus to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where they will meet the ferry to Appledore Island. To learn more about the Shoals Marine Laboratory or the Isles of Shoals, see the websites listed below. You may also subscribe to the listserve devoted to this meeting at http://www.topica.com/lists/Littorinid2OO2 The organizer is Robin Hadlock Seeley, Dept. of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Cornell University (rhs...@cornell.edu). If you are interested in receiving further information about this meeting, please reply to this message with LITTORINID 2002 in the subject line and your name will be added to the mailing list.
