FEEDING AND FORAGING STRATEGIES IN MOLLUSCS

Ecology Centre, University of Sunderland

The evolutionary significance of feeding strategies adopted by different groups of molluscs. Speakers include Gordon Port, Richard Cook, Paul Rodhouse, Liz Harper, Peter Beninger, Iwan Jones and Steve Hawkins. The meeting will start at 11 (coffee at 10.30). with SGMs and AGM at 1 p.m., and finish by 5 p.m. Note that, in addition to the speakers listed on the printed programme, Peter Beninger (Nantes) will talk on Suspension feeding mechanisms in bivalves..

Smithsonian Institution,Washington, DC, USA A combined meeting of the 13th Unitas Malacologica International Congress and the 64th Annual Meeting of the American Malacological Union, sponsored by the Smithsonian Institute, AMU and UM, with substantial support from Field Museum of Natural History and Western Society of Malacologistsin the S. Dillon Ripley Center and the National Museum of Natural History, with accommodation in George Washington University .

Three symposia:

1. Refining Molluscan Characters,

2. Interactions between Molluscs and Humans, and

3. Bridging Temporal Scales in Malacology: Uniting the Living and the Dead.

Also contributed papers and posters, social events and a field trip to the spectacular Miocene fossil beds in Calvert County, Maryland.

The congress will be organised jointly by the International Society for Medical and Applied Malacology (ISMAM), Faculty of Science, Mahidol University, Institute of Marine Science and Faculty of Science, Burapha University and Faculty of Science, Chiangmai University.

The Biology and Evolution of Bivalves

To be held at the University of Cambridge, UK, and organised, on behalf of The Society, by E M Harper, J D Taylor and J A Crame.

An international meeting to focus solely on the Bivalvia. The organisers welcome papers and posters on all aspects of the biology and palaeobiology of the class. The Society hopes that the proceedings of the meeting will be published as a series of refereed papers. The meeting is to be held over three days in the historic and picturesque city of Cambridge (UK) within the ancient university. It will be possible to organise workshops and themed sessions to accomodate those with similar interests.
