EXTINCT (EX)

No reasonable doubt, from exhaustive surveys that the last individual has died.

Surviving only in captivity or as a naturalised population well outside past range.

CRITICALLY ENDANGERED (CR)

Extremely high risk of extinction in immediate future, e.g. 80% population decline, fragmented populations, habitat decline, <250 adults globally and failing, or <50 mature individuals.

ENDANGERED (EN)

Very hight risk ofextinction in near future e.g. 50% population decline or severely fragmented population.

VULNERABLE (VU)

High risk of extinction in medium term e.g. 20% observed or projected decline; range less than 100 Km

LOWER RISK (LR) Three sub-categories:

  • Conservation Dependent (cd)
    Cessation of conservation would move taxon into a threatened category within 5 years.
  • Near Threatened (nt)
  • Least Concern (lc)
